doubleone5555 Posted November 15, 2006 Report Posted November 15, 2006 hi all. am hoping someone can help me with this problem. 1998 1.9tdi.auto. last night on turning left the gal sort of came "alive"and decided to attempt a linford christie to the end of the road {yeah bout 100 yards} when i say "alive" i mean a sudden surge of power accompanied by the sounds of either a bag of bolts underneath or someones cat franticly trying to escape from the undershield. it was raining so left it until today.took for little test drive and i mean little, did not get out of the close. starts fine put it into drive and its off, its not overrervving it still ticks over the same but wants to literally roar off. dropped it back into reverse and engine stopped. restarted same thing happened with a bit of noise when dropped into reverse engine stopped dead again.any ideas need help here ta doubles Quote
Andrew T Posted November 15, 2006 Report Posted November 15, 2006 In the absence of anyone better qualified answering I would suggest you have some sort of wastegate control problem allowing Turbo to build up excess pressure. As for the noise..........Turbo bearings gone? Quote
doubleone5555 Posted November 15, 2006 Author Report Posted November 15, 2006 hi again thanks for a reply have now rolled around the floor with it a bit now. cannot work out if its driveshaft or auto gearbox any light/thoughts to be shed? ie could a driveshaft lock the box? Quote
tim-spam Posted November 15, 2006 Report Posted November 15, 2006 Very unlikely to be turbo related. It could be the throttle potentiometer - these engines are fly-by-wire, so if a small movement of the accelerator causes a 'full throttle' signal to be sent, that would explain your problem. A VAGCOM diagnostic may show if there are any spurious throttle potentiometer signals flying around. Quote
